 Coastal Highway
Five Points to Milford
 This portion of
DE 1 came about in the 1970s, and serves as the primary north/south to
and from the Delaware beach resorts. A note of
interest... this section of DE 1 used to be known as DE 14 until the
1970s. With the upgrade
from DE 14 to DE 1, the entire route was dualized, making it a 4-lane
rural highway it's entire length from Five Points to Milford.
Several bypassed 2-lane sections still exist along the highway, serving
local communities. An expressway
grade bypass was constructed around Milford to bypass the
town. Business DE 1 still serves the community of Milford on
DE 14's original alignment. Also in Milford,
DE 1 meets up with US 113. US 113 used to be co-signed with
DE 1 to Dover... but has recently been truncated to it's intersection
with DE 1 in Milford. However, at the time these photos were
taken, US 113 was still fully signed throughout the entire route.

removed, large concrete abutments remain, and can be seen here. |
