Former US 50 / US 213
Salisbury, MD

This section of US 50 (and former US 213) is the original alignment through downtown Salisbury.  It was bypassed in the early 60s by 6-lane boulevard a few blocks away.

A short section through downtown Salisbury was closed to vehicle traffic in the early 70s, and was transformed into a pedestrian mall and plaza.  It was reopened to vehicle traffic in one direction in late 2002, with a 10 MPH speed limit.

This bridge opened to traffic on US 213 in 1928.  When US 50 took over the alignment of US 213, it took over this bridge as well.  A newer 6-lane drawbridge now serves Business US 50.

According to the bridge tender, this bridge still opens a couple of times a day, and remains under the control of the Maryland State Highway Administration, even though it only serves a city street.

The pedestrian mall in downtown Salisbury.  This used to be Salisbury's "Main Street" until the new US 50 boulevard opened a few blocks away.

I found this gem on old US 50/213 near the intersection of Business US 13 (former US 13).  It looks to be early 60s vintage.  There's no paint on the shield portion of the sign, just bare metal.  The "JCT" tab also suffers from a bit of sign rot.  But, it looks great for it's age.
